Alone, Not Lonely

  • I served as level designer for this spooky puzzle-adventure set in the Louisiana Bayou about a young kid being home alone and confronting his anxiety.

  • Worked in team of 8 on fully shipped game over 20-week period. Designed and implemented 6 levels using the following process:

    • Brainstormed ideas and sketched potential scenes

    • Deliberated with the producer over the design

    • Documented the layout, ideal playthrough, new mechanics, new art assets, important visuals, and concerns

    • Pitched the level during weekly team meetings

    • Iterated on the design based on team feedback

    • Constructed a greybox for the level and playtested

    • Iterated on the design based on tester feedback

    • Placed art assets and lighting into the level

    • Iterated, iterated, and iterated some more

    • Focused the design on provoking different feelings within each room as well as teaching the player new mechanics to be used in tandem with old ones

    • Hinted at the game narrative through art assets like picture frames, notes, and toys
